The Rural Fire Service (RFS) needs all types of people, with a wide range of skills, to keep brigades running and communities safe. The RFS is spread across 93% of Queensland and has approximately 1500 rural fire brigades, made up of approximately 34,000 volunteers.
The purpose of rural fire brigades is to operate in areas not covered by Queensland Fire and Rescue Service’s urban (town) service.
Training at the Russell Island Station is on the last Saturday of the month, 37 Jackson Rd, Russell Island – commencing at 12:00 midday.
Further training night on the following Tuesday night at 6:00PM.
New members always welcome.
Because of our seclusion we respond to a wide variety of call-outs from vegetation fires, structural fires, car fires, chemical and gas problems, and road crash rescues. We also support air rescue and the island’s ambulance service.
Our Fire and Rescue Service area is bordered on all sides by waterways and just a stone’s throw from North Stradbroke, Karragarra, Macleay and Lamb islands. We are also called to assist on those Islands when needed. We take special pride in being able to voluntarily and professionally service the community and ask that you also support us in helping your community by implementing Prepare.Act.Survive
